Iloilo City – The UPV Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS), through its Disaster Risk Reduction Training, Education and Advocacy for Children’s Protection and Resilience (TEACH DRR) Project, is one of the five public service initiatives recognized during the “3rd Gawad Pangulo for Excellence in Public Service.” The awarding was held at the College of Science Administration Building, National Science Complex, UP Diliman, Quezon City.
Two internationally respected Ilongga artists, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi and Nelfa Querubin, are featured in an exhibition of their original prints in UP Visayas titled CONTRADISTINCTION.
The University of the Philippines Visayas Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) recently held Career Talk 2019 for graduating college students. A number of students from UP Visayas and other schools in Iloilo City gathered at the UPV College of Management (CM) Lecture Halls on March 20, 2019 to listen to UP alumni from various career fields.
Hundreds of students from UP High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) gathered last March 16, 2019 at the UPV Graduate and Continuing Education Building for Career Talk 2019. The University of the Philippines Visayas Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) organized the event as a way to prepare the students in choosing their college degrees with the help of UP alumni.
Ms. Charmae F. Antipatia, Regional Corn Coordinator, Corn and Cassava Program of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 6 (DA-RFO 6) visited the cassava experimental site of the project titled, “Cyanide Analysis and Shelf Life Studies of Selected Cassava Varieties at Different Maturity Stages” which is shortly titled “CyAnSS of Cassava” located within the UP Visayas-Miagao campus, specifically in Brgy. Mat-y. The CyAnSS of Cassava Project is funded by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR).
A giant sunfish that was found wounded washed up dead along the beach area near the Diwata Shore complex on 05 March 2019 around 4:00 AM at Brgy. Mambatad, Miagao, Iloilo. Ms. Lorelie Noblezada, a local resident, has reported about the stranded sunfish to the UPV Museum of Natural Sciences, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. After careful examinations and documentation based on its morphological features and descriptions, the stranded sunfish was later identified as Mola mola by the UPV Museum of Natural Sciences.
