The Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) gathered for its first general assembly under the new set of REPS Association (REPSA) officers for 2024-2026, led by REPSA President Rose Toledo Mueda, at the MILC AVR, College of Arts and Sciences, UPV Miagao campus on May 29, 2024.
REPSA invited Ms. Ella Tidon, Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) Chief, to discuss immediate HR-related concerns of UPV REPS, particularly hiring, fellowship, and scholarship, and Ms. Emeliza Lozada, Supply and Property Services Office (SPSO) Chief, for concerns on procurement.
The invited guest speakers also answered queries from the attendees, such as the hiring and promotion of personnel, incentives for those who are part of special projects from external agencies (and hazard pay for those who are in the field or work in the University’s laboratories and facilities), and the study leave benefit of those taking their masters and doctorate degrees, among others.
Meanwhile, questions on procurement centered on the processing of pertinent documents to acquire the needs of the offices for their operations and equipment and machines for laboratories and facilities.
Part of the program was the delivery of the State of the UPV REPSA Address by Dr. Mary Jane Amar, the immediate past President of REPSA. Ms. Ma. Shirley Golez, President of the All UP Academic Employees Union – Iloilo Chapter, and Ms. Ruby Napata, on the other hand, gave updates on the REPS Manual. Dr. Jade Pahila presented some concerns and issues which the guest speakers have responded.
The preliminary planning of the REPS Summit in 2025 and resource generations projects, led by the REPSA officers, capped off the REPSA general assembly.
