The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), through the Site Development and Reforestation Project (SDRP) of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development (OVCPD), planted a variety of trees as part of the activities for the 76th Year of UP Presence in Iloilo celebration.
UPV students and personnel, led by the SDRP and the OVCPD staff, planted seedlings of Narra, Palawan cherry, balayong, cacao, atis, chico, banana, pili, langka, and kamagong on Sept. 29 at the UPV Camping Grounds, Miagao campus.
The tree-planting activity was in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-6 and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Guimbal. The University has now planted roughly 2,000 trees through the SDRP.
According to the SDRP, the initiative is a vital component of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and is an integral part of the UP Presence in Iloilo activities.
In addition, the activity also aligns with the DPWH’s obligation to comply with the tree-cutting permit granted by CENRO-Guimbal. (With sources from Prof. Anthony Salvador Albaladejo, Assistant to the VCPD for SDRP)
