The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) recently conducted a Career Talk for graduating students of the College of Management (CM) at the UPV Iloilo City Campus on March 19, 2025.
The event began with a psychological testing session for participants, followed by welcoming remarks from UPV OSA's Guidance Services Specialist, Ms. Teresa S. Hortillo. This was followed by an inspirational message from UPV Chancellor Dr. Clement C. Camposano. Several guest speakers from key government institutions then shared insights on their services and programs: Ms. Kate Luv D. Gellangarin, Administrative Officer IV from the Civil Service Commission (CSC); Ms. Rosenie G. Chavez, Branch Manager from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS); and Mr. Amiel Y. Genova, Senior Communications Analyst from the Social Security System (SSS).
To energize the participants, the UPV Peer Facilitators led an engaging icebreaker activity. The program continued with discussions from Ms. Ayra Marie G. Altabano, Global Talent Acquisition Manager, and Ms. Chantelle Widnie C. Ong, a member of the Future Leaders Program Batch 2023 of Jollibee Foods Corporation, who explored career opportunities. Registered Guidance Counselor Ms. Paula Khryss P. Ushiyama also provided insights on engaging with different personality types in the workplace.
For practical career tips, Ms. Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog, Director of the Information and Publications Office, shared advice on crafting resumes and managing social media presence. Ms. Irene Lamis-Caumban, Senior Human Resource Manager at SM Supermalls, Iloilo City, provided insights on job interviews and power dressing. A discussion from Ms. Sheena Marie C. Brey-Panado of the Department of Accounting who offered budgeting tips for new hires.
The event concluded with closing remarks from UPV OSA's Deputy Director, Dr. Sheila A. Javier.
