The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) launched the UPV Mental Health Month Celebration 2024 with a jampacked series of activities last Oct. 10, 2024.
The monthlong celebration started with a talk from Dr. Ruel Malata, Chair of the West Visayas State University Medical Center – Department of Psychiatry, titled “Pep Talk: Renewing the Mind,” where he discussed cognitive behavioral therapy to UPV personnel and students at the Teaching and Learning Resource Center (TLRC)-Audio Visual Room, Miagao campus.
He talked about collective behavioral thought record, kinds of distorted automatic thoughts responsible for emotional disorders, and seeking early treatment, among others.
After the talk, Office of Student Affairs (OSA) Director Prof. Agustin Huyong, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer, and Dr. Malata led the ribbon-cutting for the mental health exhibits displayed at the TLRC lobbies.
Other activities on the first day of the celebration included the “Ice Cream Treat for All” at the CUB and the “Employees’ Self Care” at the College of Management.
The activities for the monthlong celebration are spearheaded by OSA, together with the Health Services Unit, UPV University Student Council, Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Committee, UPV Peer Facilitators, UPV DUCES, Gender and Development Program, UPV Employees Cooperative, All UP Academic Employees Union, Team Dugong Bughaw, and partner organizations.
Talks, lectures, and wellness activities are slated for the said celebration this October. (With sources from UPV OSA)
