About 150 personnel and students from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) joined the foot parade during the opening salvo and float parade of Miagao town’s Salakayan Festival 2024 on Feb. 5.
The Salakayan Festival is celebrated every first week of February to commemorate the battle in which the people of Miagao successfully repulsed Muslim raiders (referred to as Moros by the Spanish), according to the Miagao local government unit (LGU).
The group from UPV joined offices of the LGU, universities, schools, competing tribes, and other members of the government and private sectors during the parade.
Chancellor Clement Camposano, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Rhodella Ibabao, and Office of Student Affairs Director Agustin Huyong led the group from UPV.
The town is celebrating its 26th Salakayan Festival and 308th foundation anniversary this year. The celebration carries the theme “Kultura kag Kahilwayan, Padulong sa Kadarag-an.”
