Engr. Joemel G. Sumbing, Ph.D., an assistant professor at the School of Technology, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Balik-PhD Program grantee, was invited to present at the 2024 Japan Society of Fisheries Science (JSFS) Spring Meeting from March 27 to 30, 2024 in Tokyo, Japan.
This forum is organized by JSFS, a non-profit charity that promotes fisheries science. The 2024 Spring Meeting, with the theme “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Fisheries Sciences,” features the developments in fisheries science through presentations and discussions.
Dr. Sumbing’s presentation titled “Marine Milkfish (Chanos chanos) Cage Stocking Density Estimation Using Index of Suitable Location with Acid Volatile Sulfides Criteria Through Mathematical Modeling and Simulation” aims to estimate the milkfish stocking density to prevent high pollution on the seabed that leads to hypoxia resulting to fish kills.
The participation of Dr. Sumbing in the meeting solidifies the engagement of UPV in the international conference in the field of fisheries modeling and coastal engineering. The said participation was funded by the Balik PhD Program of the University of the Philippines.
