The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is the co-convenor of the ongoing Philippine Studies Association (PSA) 2024 National Conference in Pili town, Camarines Sur.
The PSA and the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture are the conveners of the said conference. The theme for this year’s event is “Continuity, Change, and Challenges in Philippine Settlements and Environments.”
Chancellor Clement Camposano, PSA President, is representing UPV in the conference which runs from March 20 to 24. The Chancellor gave the rationale of the conference and introduced the delegate and guests during the opening day of the event yesterday, March 20.
The keynote lecture yesterday was on “Forced Resilience,” presented by Dr. Dada Docot, an Anthropology professor from Purdue University, USA.
Various topics were discussed during the parallel sessions, some of which were moderated by faculty members from the different constituent universities of the UP System.
The first half of the parallel discussions included the topics “Celebrating Bicol Studies,” Literary Voices of Emergent Constituents,” and “Shattered Silences During the Covid-19 Pandemic.”
The second half included the topics “Reducing Risk and Raising Community Resilience,” “Earthy Provocations: Reforms and Resistance,” and “Monumental Changes Through the Power of Heritage.” (With sources from PSA)
