A team of UPV economics students clinched the 1st runner-up award at the National Economic Summit 2024 Case Competition held at the Institute of Biology Auditorium, UP Diliman on September 14, 2024.
BS in Economics students Jons Stephen Hije, Georgia Sophia Alexia Cuajotor, Trisha Jean Lozano, and Gwyneth Hilary Dequiña demonstrated their expertise with their insightful paper.Apart from the group award, Hije won the Best Presenter Award among the top presenting groups.
Their team, named UPV Oecon, presented their paper entitled "'Di Lang Dagat, Lahat Dapat: A Trans-sectoral Approach to Economic Security Amid Maritime Concerns." It stressed the vital role of the Philippines' marine resources in driving sustainable economic growth. The paper explored how purpose-driven strategies across various sectors—fisheries, energy, agriculture, and coastal infrastructure—could both protect marine ecosystems and address maritime challenges, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.
Their innovative approach aligned with the summit’s theme, "The Green Leap: Pioneering Sustainable Economic Development to Achieve Global Goals."
