The Cultural Mapping for Panay and Guimaras (CMPG) implemented by UP Visayas has extended to Negros Occidental upon the request of Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, the main initiator of the project and the principal author of the Cultural Mapping Law or RA 11961.
Prof. Martin Genodepa (Program Manager), Anna Razel Ramirez (Overall Project Leader), and Ma. Lissandrine Espartero (Secretariat for Negros Occidental) conducted a series of meetings in Bacolod City on April 24-25, 2024 for this purpose.
A courtesy call with Governor Eugenio Lacson to discuss the proposal of the Cultural Mapping of Negros Occidental with the Provincial Governemnt of Negros Occidental and the Department of Education Region VI was held at the Office of the Governor, Negros Provincial Capitol, Bacolod City on April 24, 2024.
The team also met with Ms. Cheryl Decena, Tourism Officer of Negros Occidental and Negros Occidental tourism personnel, Mr. Raymond Alunan and Ms. Anette Gatuslao, to talk about the implementation of the cultural mapping in Negros involving the various local government units of Negros Occidental.
An orientation of the newly hired Research Assistants for Negros Occidental was also conducted on the same day at the Negros Occidental Tourism Office. The project has hired full time cultural mappers to support this initiative. They are Dennacris Alisasis, Noreen Alvarez, Josell Cainoy, Maybe Recla, and Cindy Emboltorio.
The UPV Team also conducted a courtesy meeting with the OIC of the DepEd Curriculum Implementation Division, Dr. Nelson Bedaure, on April 25, 2024. A prior meeting was held with Dr. Hazel Vivien Pineda of DepEd Regional Office for the preparation fo the Memorandum of Agreement for this project.
