The University of the Philippines Visayas conducted the Graduate Orientation Program for AY 2021-2022 on October 23, 2021, via the Zoom platform to formally start the opening of classes for the various masters’ degree programs.
UP Visayas Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs welcomed the incoming graduate students on behalf of the deans. He emphasized the goal of the university to produce scientists both from the natural and social sciences who would cater to national development as they contribute to the national development goals.
Chancellor Clement Camposano, in his message, said that this year’s students have joined UP at a challenging, difficult, and transformative time. For some, remote learning can be frustrating; but he asked them to use this time to reimagine, revisit and re-examine education. He asked them to explore and maximize the use of technology. “Teachers should only be facilitators of learning as students assume greater responsibility for their learning and are co-creators of knowledge as the university moves closer to the University of the Future,” he emphasized.
The graduate students were given a virtual tour of the UPV campuses in Miagao, Iloilo City, and Tacloban City. The vice-chancellors, deans, and other officials were also introduced during the event. Almost 400 graduate students enrolled in the various programs offered by the university's different colleges joined the orientation.
