UPHSI revives TeKnowkasyon as part of the CAS Week celebration

UP High School in Iloilo (UPHSI), Division of Professional Education revived TeKnowkasyon, a talk on action research and presentation of researches and innovative teaching strategies on different learning areas, on 28 February 2024 as part of the College of Arts and Sciences Week celebration. 

In her opening message, UPHSI Principal Asst. Prof. Edelai Braga emphasized the value of collaborations in advancing quality education in the region. 

The activity started with a talk by Asst.Prof. Early Sol Gadong on “Action Reseach for Teachers,” highlighting the basic characteristics of action research. An open forum followed, where participants were able to share their insights and clarify some of their concerns related to action research.

The activity showcased the research papers and various teaching strategies of UPHSI faculty members from various subject areas, including English, Social Studies, Math/ Computer, Filipino, Science, and MAPEH. 

Asst. Prof. Joven Llabore presented his paper titled “To flip or not to flip: Effect of Flipped Classroom on the Grammatical Competence of Grade 7 Learner” for the English cluster. Ms. Jelyn D. Geraldoy’s paper titled “Imahe ng Pinuno sa Leksikon ng Pamumuno: Si Salagunting bilang Timawa sa Nobelang Margosatubig ni Ramon Muzones” represented the Filipino cluster. Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Donne Jone P. Sodusta, PhD completed the first batch of presentations by showcasing his paper titled “B.T.S. Realities of Filipino Shadow Education Teachers: Applicable Insights for Social Studies Education Action Research.”

The second batch of presenters included Mr. Alonzo Francisco P. Locsin for the Math/ Computer cluster (“ResearchHub: An Online Journal and Research Repository”), Asst. Prof. Raphael V. Belleza for the Science cluster (“ElectroMag, Demystified”), and Asst. Prof. Jose R. Taton, Jr. for MAPEH (“Hampang (Play) in the Tambol (Drum) Tradition of the Panay Bukidnon Community”).

An open forum was done after the presentations of each batch to give the participants and opportunity to ask questions and share their insights. 

In total, there were 77 attendees, 56 from 18 public schools in Iloilo City and one SUC, and 21 faculty members from UPHSI. Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology had the biggest number of participants.

Assoc. Prof. Joel Labos, chair of the UPHSI CAS Week Celebration Committee, thanked the attendees  in his closing message and encouraged them to join the next TeKnowkasyon.
