Assistant Prof. Rene C. Trance was recently appointed to oversee the Language Program of the College of Arts and Sciences as its faculty-in-charge.
Trance is a faculty member of U.P. High School in Iloilo handling world history and economics course. He finished his Bachelor of Arts degree (major in History, 2002), Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (2010), Master of Education, major in Social Studies (2023) from UP Visayas.
His interests include local history and culture, heritage houses, museums, ruins, and archival documents. He has been involved in various historical, heritage, and cultural mapping projects in the Panay Island as a researcher, copy editor, and writer since 2002.
Trance has written four articles for the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Encyclopedia of Philippine Arts Online Edition for 2024. He is also an official guide (docent) to heritage houses in Iloilo City like Casa Mariquit, Concepcion Chalet, Don Rosendo Mejica House, Camina Balay nga Bato, and Casa Rizaliana.
He is a Board of Trustee, Western Visayas Association of Museum Workers Inc. (WVAMI). He is Project Leader for the Tangible and Immovable Heritage Domain, Cultural Mapping of Panay and Guimaras.
Trance has also co-authored and contributed to various publications on heritage and culture. He will serve the language program from Sept. 1 to August 31, 2025.
