In a competition where momentum plays a crucial factor, the nine academic organizations of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) battled to rack up wins in the early rounds of the UPV Pahampang 2024.
The University’s annual sports fest opened with Larong Pinoy (traditional Filipino games) and ball games over the weekend, March 16 and 17, at the UPV Covered Court and UPV Football Field, Miagao campus.
As of March 17, Skimmers are at the top of the overall standings after garnering 56 points over the weekend, the partial and unofficial scoreboard showed. The second spot currently belongs to Fisheries with 47.5 points, followed by Redbolts with 44.5 points.
Ugyon, the defending Pahampang champions, currently sit at the fourth spot with 30 points. The team’s bid for back-to-back championship campaigns started strong after placing first in the Larong Pinoy.
Victorious teams look to sustain their winning ways and those that struggled to pick up wins have an opportunity to shorten the gap when the games resume on March 23 and 24.
The Pahampang 2024 is organized by the UPV University Student Council and Pahampang Tournament Board, together with sponsoring organizations.
The theme is “Himakas UP Visayas: Kaisog, Kaalam, kag Kakisig Tubtob sa Mahilway nga Bwas-Damlag.”
This year’s sports fest features a trimmed-down number of participating groups as the College of Management’s three academic organizations — Magnates, Scions, and Tycoons — have merged, prompting the return of the “Bluechips.”
