Student Interns assist Cultural Mapping Conference

Students from various universities including UP Visayas, West Visayas State University, University of San Agustin, and John B. Lacson Maritime Foundation University were given a chance to be interns for the Kaantagan: Cultural Mapping of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental Province (CMPG) 1st Conference held in Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City on October 23-25, 2024. 

This enabled students who were enrolled in various fields to have a chance to experience cultural and heritage work. 

Calls for interns were promoted via social media and interested applicants were asked to submit their applications to CMPGs official email. More than 50 interested students responded to the call. The following were accepted to be part of the conference: Ryza Ella Angcos, Mark Anthony David, Olive Rose Bordon, Kim Ivan Belna, Gracelyn Paler, Rixfel Balbarono Aperong, Janara Isabelle Belaza, Erin Janina Lucero, Berks Joseph Tan, Antonio Sebastian B. Jover, Jeanelle Deocampo, Jullienne Tambirao, Lou Marcial Cuesta, Ma. Gwyneth Abanero, Maika Marie Intia, Keziah Jane Balinas, Josiah Borres, Rodmar Arduo, Macey Abon, Jason Keith Caparanga, Diosel Velasco and Alvin Dellomes.

The selected interns were assigned to various committees for their tasks before and during the conference. These committees included the Performance Committee who ensured the technical and logistical needs of the performances were set, the Logistics Committee who assisted in the setup and procurement of materials needed for the event, the Food Committee who were tasked to assist in food-related matters, and the Transportation Committee who helped arrange transport for the keynote speakers and performers. There was also the Registration Committee who assisted on-site in registering attendees and distributing the conference kits. The Usherette Committee welcomed and assisted the keynote speakers, participants and performers. The Documentation and Rapporteur Committees provided live updates and coverage of the event as well as the conference syntheses. 

The student interns also offered their assistance in the preconference preparations on October 21-22. The interns were mentored by the whole CMPG Team and had Ms. Choncey Talledo, CMPG Project Assistant as their team leader.

A postmortem meeting was held on October 29, 2024 at the Diversions 21 lounge where several student interns  shared their experiences and learning earned during the conference and their internship with the project. (With sources from CMPG)
