OVCRE conducts 2024 year-end assessment, gears up for 2025

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) held its 2024 Year-End Assessment and 2025 Strategic Planning Workshop on April 10–11, 2025, at District 21 Hotel, Iloilo City. The event was attended by representatives from OVCRE’s supervised units, as well as research and public service coordinators from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV).

In her opening remarks, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, underscored the importance of aligning strategic activities with the evolving needs of the University and its stakeholders. She emphasized the need for flexibility and adaptability in the face of ongoing changes and stressed the value of creating a more structurally integrated research development, collaboration, and public service agenda to strengthen the continuum between research and public service.

The first session focused on Research, Creative Work, Publication, and Public Service (RCWPPS) Collaborations and Partnership Guidelines and Agenda, presented by VCRE Yap. She highlighted the significance of fostering inter-unit collaboration and driving innovation in public service initiatives. This was followed by a workshop and presentations from the participating units and coordinators, where they shared current efforts and proposed plans moving forward.

In the afternoon, Ms. Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog delivered a lecture on “Understanding Conflicts in the Workplace,” offering insights into conflict resolution and healthy communication in professional settings. The day concluded with a lively social activity, fostering camaraderie among attendees.

The second day opened with a recap of the previous day’s sessions and continued with the presentation of unit accomplishments and program updates. This was followed by presentations centered on aligning proposed plans with UPV’s strategic targets for 2025–2027. Ms. Maria Rotsen A. Cayanan and Mr. Hilario G. Gavan III from the OVCRE provided overviews of the UPV Strategic Plan, Office Performance Commitment Review (OPCR), and the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) system, respectively. Assistant Professor Kezzie Lyn B. Hilado, Director of the Gender and Development Program Office, also shared insights on integrating gender perspectives into planning and target-setting.

In the final session, each unit presented their proposed action plans and strategies aligned with the university’s targets. The event concluded with a message from the Assistant to the VCRE, Dr. Iris Ann G. Borlongan who commended the participants for their commitment and collaborative efforts. She also offered key reminders and words of encouragement as the university prepares for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

With sharp focus and clear strategic directions, OVCRE is set to lead into more impactful, innovative, and productive years, in line with the university’s mandate of honor, excellence, and service to the people.
