The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration (OVCA) organized a workshop on February 27, 2025 with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development (OVCPD) and the Health Services Unit (HSU) on improving the Health Services Unit at the Miagao Campus. The workshop was held at the Training Rooms, Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB), UP Visayas, Iloilo City campus.
In the morning session, a roundtable discussion was moderated by Dr. Cherry Pilapil-Añasco, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Administration (VCA). During this session, the participants conducted a SWOT analysis to identify the current status of the HSU.
In the afternoon, Vice Chancellor for Administration Farisal U. Bagsit welcomed the workshop participants and guests, Dr. Jose V. Tecson III, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development at UP Manila, and Mr. Joseph Ladrido, Executive Director and Trustee of the Institute of Contemporary Economics, Inc., who shared their experiences, insights, and potential plans for the improvement and rehabilitation of the HSU.
HSU Chief Dr. Ma. Cecilia D. Villaruz presented the status of the HSU regarding repairs and the renewal of licenses. She also outlined plans for upgrading equipment, hiring additional staff, repairing and rehabilitating the building, forging linkages with other health facilities, and providing additional vaccines.
This was followed by Chancellor Clement C. Camposano’s response and message. He emphasized the importance of the perspectives shared by Vice Chancellor Tecson and Mr. Ladrido, as well as the initiative to improve the HSU facility.
Vice Chancellor Tecson and Mr. Ladrido entertained questions from the participants. Some of the questions included the possibility of simultaneously repairing the HSU while exploring the potential establishment of a BUCAS Center (Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services), as well as the implications for the current HSU structure.
Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Rhodella Ibabao, in her closing message, thanked Vice Chancellor Tecson, Mr. Ladrido, and the participants for their insights and opinions, which would aid in the planning for the improvement of the HSU.
Participants included representatives from the offices of VCA, VCPD, HSU, Budget, Legal, and the Campus Development and Management Office.
