The Student Organizations and Activities (SOA) Unit of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) conducted an orientation for the advisers of UPV student organizations for the academic year 2024-2025 last October 9, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the CFOS Pidlaoan Hall.
During his opening remarks, OSA Director, Prof. Agustin G. Huyong, thanked the faculty members and the non-teaching staff for attending the orientation despite their busy schedules.
Resource speaker Atty. Scarlette Joy N. Coopera-Castillon from the Office of the Chancellor discussed the Anti-Hazing Law of 2018, highlighting the duties of the advisers in conducting initiation rites of fraternities, sororities, and other organizations.
The SOA staff also presented the responsibilities and roles of the advisers, particularly in conducting online, on-campus, and off-campus activities.
During the open forum, the advisers actively asked questions and shared their comments on some concerns about student organizations. The resource speaker, the OSA Director, and the SOA Coordinator, Prof. Pilar Mercedes A. Retiracion, jointly addressed the questions and concerns.
Some 50 advisers attended, representing around a hundred college-based and university-wide organizations.
