OSA, GCSU, and UPHSI JPH host View of Careers for students

The Office of Student Affairs, through the Guidance and Counseling Services Unit, and in collaboration with the UPHSI Junior Peer Facilitators, successfully hosted its annual View of Careers event with the theme “Today’s Choices, Tomorrow’s Success.” Designed to help students prepare for college and their future careers, the event featured insightful discussions on college readiness, degree programs, and inspiring success stories from alumni.

The program opened with Dr. Jonny B. Pornel, Chairperson of the Division of Professional Education, delivering the opening remarks. He emphasized the importance of making informed decisions early on, as these choices play a crucial role in shaping a successful future.

The morning session focused on academic preparation, beginning with a discussion led by Ms. Ana Liza A. Subade of the Office of the University Registrar on preparing for the UPCAT and college life at UPV. She provided strategies for submitting UPCAT applications, excelling in the entrance exam and preparing for college life. This was followed by an overview of the academic programs offered by the various colleges at UPV. The session featured insights from the college/school secretaries, including Asst. Prof. Lhumen A. Tejano of CFOS, Dr. Alice Prieto-Carolino of CAS, Dr. Dennis C. Ong of SOTECH, and Prof. Ma. Rhona P. Beriales of CM. Their discussions helped students explore their options and align their interests with potential career paths.

The afternoon session shifted toward career readiness. Ms. Heydee Marie B. Zereso from PESO Iloilo City provided valuable insights into career trends and the essential skills needed for success, equipping students with knowledge about the evolving job market. To further inspire attendees, UPHSI alumni Atty. Nellie Jo P. Aujero-Regalado and Dr. Marovi A. Celis shared their career journeys, highlighting the challenges they overcame and the key choices that shaped their professional paths.

The event concluded with Prof. Nathaniel G. Samson, Director of the Office of Student Affairs, delivering the closing remarks. He encouraged students to apply what they had learned and make thoughtful decisions that would positively impact their academic and career journeys.

This activity also served as a venue for volunteerism and leadership, with the UPHSI Junior Peer Facilitators (JPF) taking on various roles to ensure the event’s success. Team leaders Antoine Kaiser T. Demontano and Pauline Tolentino guided the team, while Scherzi C. Monte and Ryger Gianne Binayas served as masters of ceremonies in the morning, followed by Pauline C. Tolentino and Krizia A. Gacayan in the afternoon. The JPF also acted as ushers, managed registration, handled technical aspects, and assisted guests, ensuring the seamless execution of the program.

Through engaging discussions and inspiring success stories, the View of Careers provided students with valuable guidance and inspiration, empowering them to navigate their futures with confidence.
