Students of NSTP-LTS Section 1 of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) under the advisory of Ms. Analiza S. Galang-Linaugo completed their 40-hour service training program for the Grade 7 and 8 students of St. Louise de Marillac School of Miagao on April 27, 2024. The event was done through a culmination program after a series of enrichment programs on English and Mathematics from February to April this year.
The event marked the end of the fulfilling and transformative journey of 40 student-teachers, who dedicated their Saturdays to enhancing literacy and education among students of the said institution. It was attended by the students, school principal, student-teachers, and their class adviser to witness the recognition of star learners, presentations, games, and the pinnacle of the program.
In her opening remarks, the school principal of St. Lousie de Marillac School of Miagao expressed her heartfelt thanks to the University, the student-teachers, and the class adviser for choosing their institution as the recipient of their enrichment program in English and Mathematics. In her words, she thanked how the Saturday sessions helped their students perform better, allowing them to top their respective classes.
To give special recognition to students who displayed immense passion and drive in learning, student-teachers decided to award one student each from different sections. It was followed by fun-filled games that allowed the students and student-teachers to enjoy each other’s company and the bond that had been formed over time. A freshman of BA (Sociology), Aaron Damaso shared his experience by saying “Our time here in Marillac was very fulfilling because I get to share my knowledge and help them to be better.”
As the program concluded, Galang-Linaugo expressed her gratitude to the student-teachers who accepted the challenge to be of service to these students. She hoped that all student-teachers learned a thing or two from the experience and treasure it as they transcend further in life. It is through the on-ground engagement and grassroots participation that the NSTP-LTS program remains a harbinger of community service and student development.
