Mobile Museum Boxes open at UPV

The National Museum of the Philippines’ (NMP) Mobile Museum Boxes (MMB) Exhibit is now open at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) in Miagao, Iloilo starting May 18, 2022.

UPV constituents may view the exhibit at the UPV Library lobby this May, while the public may visit it from June to July 22.

The exhibit will be open for four sessions per day, with 20 visitors per session.

The 12 boxes contain a collection of the Visayas region’s natural heritage on the areas of botany, zoology, geology, and ethnology.

The exhibit’s theme is “Conserving the Natural History of the Visayas Region.”

UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano said such an initiative helps people appreciate the beauty of science.

He said, “as a scienced-based institution tasked with the advancement of research, we also explore the latest innovations in communicating that science to as diverse of a public as possible.”

Jaydee Anne Pascual of the NMP’s Botany and National Herbarium Division said the national museum plans to further engage communities by bringing the museum to those who do not have access to it.

“We hope that these boxes would be able to raise further interest, not just to educate them,” she said.

The exhibit was launched at the UPV Library lobby on May 17. Soledad Garibay and Dominique Mediodia of the UPV Museum of Natural Sciences led the launching.

It is a joint project of the NMP and the Western Visayas Association of Museums, Inc. supported by the Forest Foundation Philippines.

Those interested in the exhibit may inquire at the UPV Museum of Natural Sciences.
