The University of the Philippines Visayas Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) recently held Career Talk 2019 for graduating college students. A number of students from UP Visayas and other schools in Iloilo City gathered at the UPV College of Management (CM) Lecture Halls on March 20, 2019 to listen to UP alumni from various career fields.
CM alumni gave inspirational talks in the morning. Ms. Ma. Eugenia S. Aguillon-Chiong, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of F&E automotive division and Managing Director of Hino – Panay talked about her journey from being a student, a new graduate, starting in business and on to becoming a COO. Mr. Richard B. Ali, Senior Accounts Payable Accountant at Sidra Medical and Research Center talked about the social impact and future opportunities in Blockchain, and how this technology can become an alternative venture.
A workshop was held in the afternoon. Prof. Jessie L. Labiste, Jr., faculty member of the Division of Professional Education in UPV, equipped the students with the knowledge on writing the winning resume. Ms. Wilrose Villaram, Account Manager for Asia for We Teach Asia/Kru Angkrit, and contributor in Japan Info, talked about the modern trends in hiring. Ms. Maria Aurelia Estela Pador, Head of the Guidance Center at the Western Institute of Technology prepared the students on how to ace the job interview.
Dr. Agustin Huyong, director of OSA, and Prof. Benmar Panaguiton, director of OAR, delivered their messages for the graduating students.
