Researchers from the Universite de Montpellier- Marine Biodiversity, Exploitation and Conservation (MARBEC) in France visited UP Visayas recently for talks on establishing deeper linkage and collaboration through the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS).
Dr. Thierry Bouvier, Dr. Yvan Bettarel, Dr. Jean-Christophe Auguet met with CFOS dean Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap on April 15, 2019 at the UPV Iloilo City campus.
They also had a meeting with Chancellor Ricardo P. Babaran and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (VCRE) Rolly G. Fuentes at the Miagao campus. They were joined by CFOS faculty members Prof. Sheila Santander-de Leon, Prof. Sharon N. Nuñal and CFOS research coordinator Prof. Victor Marco Emmanuel S. Ferriols.
On April 16, the three researchers talked about their institution as well as presented their researches on marine microbial ecology at the CFOS Faculty Center in Miagao campus and was attended by the CFOS students and faculty members.
The French researchers were among the organizers and lecturers of the South Asia Thematic School on Aquatic Microbial Ecology (ASIAME).0.
Held every three years, the thematic school gathers microbial ecologists that are focusing on marine ecosystems. It covers fundamental and applied aspects in marine microbial ecology.
The first ASIAME was held in Vietnam in 2013 and followed in India in 2017.
The visitors are contemplating to hold ASIAME 3 at UP Visayas Miagao campus next year.
