Today, the UP Visayas Sibika Hub 2.0 (Western Visayas) is taking place at Hotel del Rio, with students and teachers from Jaro National High School, Mandurriao National High School, La Paz National High School, Iloilo City National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High School, Fort San Pedro National High School, and Jalandoni National High School in attendance.
Chancellor Clement Camposano is the keynote speaker, presenting a lecture titled “Empowering Youth: The Role of Civic Engagement.” In his address, he highlights the crucial role of active citizenship and the collective effort of all societal sectors in fostering meaningful and positive change for the nation.
The program’s opening also featured remarks from Mr. Markus Ramon San Gabriel, program officer for Youth Leadership for Democracy; Mr. Candido Golez III of the SDO-Iloilo; and Dean Sonny Fernandez, project leader of the Sibika Hub for Western Visayas.
This afternoon's Youth Panel Discussion will include presentations from Prof. Imelda Catequista, Ms. Jeareene Therese Loredo, the former UPHSI president, and Ms. Aisha Homeres, the current UPHSI student council president.
Later, Dr. Randy Madrid will address “Strengthening Nationalism Among the Youth,” Prof. Ronela Jundos will speak on “Building a Civic-Minded Community,” and Dr. Donne Jone Sodusta will discuss “Decide Wisely: Understanding the Impact of Your Vote.”
The UP Visayas Sibika Hub aims to foster civic consciousness among all citizens, with a particular focus on engaging Filipino youth.
This initiative is a collaborative effort involving YouthLed, The Asia Foundation, USAID, the Schools Division of Iloilo City, UP Visayas, and the Division of Professional Education, and will run through October 2024.
