The Community Outreach Program – Barangay Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (COP-BIDANI) of the College of Arts and Sciences conducted a one-day, in-person training for the Barangay Nutrition Scholars of the municipality of Igbaras on July 31, 2023, at the Auditorium of UPV’s Iloilo City campus.
CAS Associate Dean Nilo C. Araneta formally opened the program with a message, while National Nutrition – Region VI’s Ms. Queenie B. Tad-y shared a speech reiterating the importance of this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration: "Healthy diet, gawing affordable for all."
These were followed by lectures on important health and nutrition topics delivered by COP-BIDANI’s Coordinator, Asst. Prof. Josephine T. Firmase, and Extension Associates, Mr. Marianito M. Ramirez, Jr. and Mx. John B.C. “Rinj” Tutisura. Finally, for the closing program, COP-BIDANI dedicated a moment of gratitude towards the Punong Barangays of their partner communities by presenting them with tokens of appreciation in the form of hanging-type weighing scales and microtoises.
Titled “HimaCAS Para Sa Ikaayong Lawas Capacity-Building and 2023 Nutrition Month Celebration with COP-BIDANI’s Partner Municipalities,” the training did not only serve as a culminating activity for the month-long celebration of nutrition but also as the fifth (5th) iteration of the implementation of the OVCRE-funded public service project (SP22-19), “CASangkol Pabaskugon, Ikaayong Lawas kag Nutrisyon Pabaskugon: Joining the Global Fight to Build Health and Nutrition Resilience of the Most Vulnerable Communities.”
Through the CASangkol project, CAS COP-BIDANI was able to implement a total of six (6) capacity-building activities in barangays across the municipalities of Miagao, Tubungan, Dueñas, and Igbaras.
