CAS Forest Hut opened

The College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV-CAS) opened its CAS Forest Hut on April 29 as an additional learning space for the College.

The CAS Forest Hut is foreseen to hold about 20 classes per week for small groups of 15 students, according to Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer.

Aside from holding classes, the hut will also serve as an additional venue for intimate meetings and discussions, Ferrer said. The hut is ready to be utilized within the year.

The CAS Forest Hut is one of the major projects initiated by Ferrer during her term as CAS Dean.

To recall, CAS opened its CAS Park in December last year and its CAS Garden last January, providing more learning and social spaces for students and personnel of the College.

These projects were made possible through the generosity of the donors of the CAS Fund Drive initiated in 2021 and 2022.

Prof. Pepito Fernandez, Jr., the newly-appointed CAS Dean; Dr. Johnrev Guilaran, Chair of the Division of Social Sciences; and Prof. Marie Frances Nievales, Chair of the Division of Biological Sciences, led the ribbon-cutting to officially open the CAS Forest Hut.

CAS personnel,  mostly from the Office of the Dean and the Office of the College Secretary, attended the opening of the CAS Forest Hut.
