Dr. Clement Camposano, the incumbent Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), gets another term as the highest official of the University after the Board of Regents’ (BOR) decision during their special meeting on Oct. 5, 2023.
Camposano won against his fellow nominee, retired UPV professor Mary Ann Gumban.
With the appointment from the BOR, Camposano will serve for three more years as UPV Chancellor from Nov. 1, 2023 to Oct. 31, 2026.
Camposano envisions UPV to be a world-class institution of higher learning known for excellence in teaching, research, and public service, leading in community engagement and meaningful change in education, and distinguished by a robust commitment to diversity, inclusion, and democratic governance.
He seeks to build upon the gains of his administration through his five-point agenda:
1. Building on our strengths in teaching, research, and public service
2. Deepen engagement with our communities
3. Lead towards meaningful change in education
4. Deepen and promote diversity and inclusion in our campuses
5. Reinvigorate democratic governance in the University
Camposano is the 11th Chancellor of UPV and is the current President of the Philippine Studies Association. Prior to his appointment as Chancellor in 2020, he served in various academic institutions in various capacities.
He previously taught courses in the anthropology and sociology of education at the Division of Curriculum Instruction – Educational Foundations, College of Education, UP Diliman. He also taught and developed courses in Philippine history and culture, social science research, political theory, and political dynamics at the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P).
He is currently a faculty member of the UPV Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS-ProfEd).
A native of Leon, Iloilo, Camposano is an alumnus of the UP High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) and UP Visayas where he graduated with a double-major degree in Political Science and History in 1986.
He also holds a master’s degree in Political Science and a PhD in Philippine Studies from UP Diliman.
