A group of Math198.2 students under the supervision of Dr. Arnel L. Tampos and Assistant Professor Kent Christian A. Castor of the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) presented their research papers through poster presentation at the 2024 Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) Annual National Convention. The event took place at the University of the Philippines Tacloban College from May 30 to June 2, 2024.
Hyke J. Maybay, John Michael Vincent C. Ilustre, and Abram Alfred V. Geonanga investigated COVID-19 cases in Iloilo prior to vaccination in their work titled "An Analysis of the Dynamics of COVID-19 in Iloilo using SIRD-based Absorbing Markov Chains.” Ejcurl B. Delarmente and Giyo Darren R. Galicia in their work "Minimizing Costs of Nile Tilapia Feed Formulation Using An LP-based FFO Algorithm,” used the recently developed Flying Fox Optimization Algorithm in finding the optimal feed formulation for Nile Tilapia.
Mr. RB Jann G. Jamindang and Mr. Jaypee B. Agregado, faculty members from DPSM and Division of Professional Education, respectively, also presented their undergrad researches titled "Two-Tired to Travel: The Implementation of Graph Theory in Creating an Efficient Bike Lane Across Iloilo City Proper.”
This year's convention featured over 100 research presentations across various categories, including Applied Mathematics, Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Analysis and Statistics, Algebra and Number Theory, and Mathematics Education. The MSP Convention, marking its 51st year, is an annual gathering that unites mathematicians, educators, and enthusiasts to discuss mathematical topics, share research, and promote mathematics advancement in the Philippines. Notably, this is the first MSP convention held outside the National Capital Region since the pandemic.
